Summer Coaching Opportunities at IGC
We are always looking for well-trained, caring, energetic professionals to provide an amazing experience
for our campers. This letter sets out some of our expectations for coaches, a brief description of the
coaching program, and how to go forward if you are interested in formally applying.

COACHING EXPECTATIONS

We are specifically seeking coaches who want to share their knowledge and experience, and are willing
to challenge themselves personally and professionally.
Over the course of the summer, we will have between 3,000 and 4,000 campers. They come from all 50
U.S. States, and over 40 different countries. They range from true beginners to international level
competitors, and have come up through many different developmental pathways. As a result, every
coach, regardless of experience or coaching level, will be exposed to and have to learn to coach
gymnasts with different gymnastics backgrounds, to teach and spot new skills, and to adapt to the
programming and coaching practices of IGC.

Our goal is that each coach helps every camper leave IGC with:

• A renewed love for the sport of gymnastics,
• A fresh perspective from training alongside gymnasts and coaches from all over the world,
• An increased understanding of technique and progressions for the skills at their level,
• Inspiration and motivation from Olympic, World Championships, and NCAA coaches and athletes,
• Exposure to drills on equipment and stations not necessarily available in their home clubs, and
• Hopefully even a “eureka” moment, like hearing that same correction for the one “millionth” time
but from a new voice so it finally clicks, or gaining the confidence to work through a mental block, or
finding the internal motivation to achieve that one skill that’s been in the works for so long!

The coaches who thrive here are those who are passionate about gymnastics, passionate about learning,
and passionate about providing each gymnast with an amazing summer camp experience. The
challenges are immense, the work load is huge, and the rewards are incredible.

Telephone: (570) 629-0244 • Fax: (570) 620-0616
www.internationalgymnastics.com • office@internationalgymnastics.com

COACHING PROGRAM

The coaching program here is a live-in program, and runs for almost 13 weeks during the summer. The
first 10 days are required Pre-Camp work and training. The next 11 weeks are formal Summer Camp
sessions.

First year coaches are Coach/Counselors, and live in cabins with the campers throughout the summer.
Many Coach/Counselors alternate weeks of responsibility for activities — one week responsible for
coaching in the gyms, the next week responsible supervising the recreational activities outside the gym.
Returning coaches, as well as career coaches, depending on the needs of IGC, may Coach/Counsel or
may be asked to focus specifically on coaching every week.
During coaching weeks, there are 6.25 hours each day of coaching. All staff also have a required two
hours per day of training and continuing education. The gymnastics education is part of our
Professional Coaching Development (PCD) program. The counseling education includes topics on
childhood development, counseling/mentoring children, and child psychology – all invaluable
information for coaches!

FORMAL APPLICATION PROCESS

Whether you’re a potential first-year staff member looking for experience of a lifetime, a career
professional looking for new challenges and learning opportunities, or a former camper whose dream is
to make that jump to the IGC staff, we would like to welcome you to the IGC Family!
1. Email your resume or CV to staff@internationalgymnastics.com Please include either letters of
reference, or email contact information for potential references.
2. We schedule potentially qualified applicants for formal Skype interviews.
3. Accepted applicants then need to complete the formal hiring documents. Please note, at this
point there are separate hiring procedures for American and International Staff.

Important for all International Applicants: As IGC is not a visa sponsor, all international
applicants must apply through an international work visa sponsorship agency of your choice,
such as AmeriCamp, Camp America, Camp Leaders, CCUSA, etc. We can assist in preplacing
qualified international coaches with an agency.

All IGC staff members must pass background checks and all applicable working-with-children clearances.
Coaches are also required prior to employment or during Pre-Camp Orientation to complete, among
others, USA First Aid/CPR and Safety Certification. Staff are required to live and stay on campus six days
per week. There is no smoking, alcohol, or illegal substances allowed anywhere on campus, and for the
protection of our campers we are an electronics-free campus. (Staff personal devices, including cell
phones, tablets, laptops, and cameras, may only be used in “Staff Only” designated areas. They are not
allowed outside on campus, in any cabin or gym, or in any camper accessible at any time.)
